Description

Our typical diet is low in omega-3 fatty acids. It has been estimated that 80% of the population consumes insufficient quantities of essential fatty acids. While it’s true that we are supposed to have no more than 30% of our calories from fat, supplementation from fatty acids is beneficial to many health conditions.
VitaMist Omega (Blue Green Sea Spray) combines omega-3 (linolenic) and omega-6 (linoleic) fatty acids, extracted from both spirulina, a blue-green algae found in various spots around the globe, and flaxseed, a plant whose cultivation stretches back to ancient Egypt.

Essential fatty acids have numerous functions in the body. They are precursors to a family of compounds known as the prostaglandins – which are responsible for numerous effects throughout the body.

In addition, Omega (Blue Green Sea Spray) adds carotenoids, including beta-carotene, which exert antioxidant effects, and chlorophylls, known for their ability to stimulate wound healing.

Eight out of every ten Americans aren’t getting the amount of fatty acids their body needs to produce energy and fight infections. Are you one of them?

Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green alga often used as a food supplement. It is a rich source of beta-carotene, phycocyanin (which is a blue pigment) and chlorophyll, making it an ideal source for these antioxidants. Spirulina is also composed of 65% protein and 7% minerals, of which iron is a significant proportion. Spirulina is also a rich natural source of B-vitamins. Overall, spirulina is a very good food source.

Flax seed oil (in Europe this may be better known as linseed oil) is a very rich source of the two essential fatty acids, alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid. These essential fatty acids cannot be produced by the body and, therefore, must be obtained from our diet. These fatty acids are metabolic precursors to prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that balance many key processes in the body. For example, the omega-3 fatty acids help the immune system, decrease inflammation, decrease blood pressure, and reduce the tendency for the formation of blood clots. Deficiency of omega-3 acids has been associated with many health problems, and it is felt that supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids may assist against heart disease, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, and certain forms of arthritis.

There are several advantages to obtaining omega-3 fatty acids from plant sources as opposed to fish oil; for example, flax seed oil does not contain any of the cholesterol, vitamin A or vitamin D that is found in fish oils.
